In the Cinque Terre you can celebrate Civil, Catholic or Symbolic Weddings, but our tips is this: celebrate your civil wedding at home…for many reason this will make you more relaxed in having your fantastic romance completed in Italy. You will save money, energies and time. And you’ll always have the guarantee that all your papers are in order and at your reach for the rest of your life.
Civil Weddings
Civil weddings can be celebrated only at a town hall (eventually in appointed places but never on beaches or restaurants or other locations) and are accepted against presentation of legal papers. Huge amounts of papers, with notary and consular fees, have to be produced and you will have to follow all the procedures several months before the wedding date. The local Town Hall will require the payment of a high fee (over 1000.00 euros) an to it you will have to add all the rest of wedding planning fees that vary depending on guests, location, reception and other services you may require.
Religious Catholic Weddings
Religious Catholic Weddings can take place in the beautiful, ancient Santa Margherita church by the waters. Against presentation of legal Catholic Church and civil papers both religious and civil rite can be celebrated by the Italian priest. All this can be done in cooperation with the Town Hall so the fee has to be paid to the Comune of Vernazza as well. It is extremely complicate for foreign couples since two authorities have to be put in relationship and huge amounts of papers, with notary and consular fees have to be produced and combined to religious catholic requirements. Then, the local Parish under the rules of La Spezia bishop will require the proof of Catholic marriage course at couple’s home plus baptism and other sacraments certificates.
In the years we have celebrated also mixed religious weddings, but again, more complicate procedures have to be followed and many priests often refuse to celebrate them due to the complicate organisation to combine different rites.
If civil rite is extremely stressful and complicate, the religious and civil together might appear even harder and tiring for the couple and our wedding planning fees will be much higher due to the many hours dedicated to it.
