HOW TO... THE CINQUE TERRE
Train is best solution for approaching the CINQUE TERRE wether your trip to the area origins from a big city or from an airport. Our villages are mostly car free and car parking spaces limited and far from the majority of village centers. Definitely you won't need car to move from one village to the other.
Driving to the Cinque Terre might be exciting. It will show you the Region from the top, the scenic Litoranea Road. But consider that running these roads is not easy. They are narrow and crooked. Car Parking Spots are limited and far from the villages centers. Train stations are instead all centrally located.
If you prefer traveling more relaxed, better hiring a local driver who will pick you up from all Italian and European airports & cities. More costly than train, but with plus of adding stopovers and enjoy the scenery! TIP: local drivers have special permits to get closer to the centers, so better hiring one of them.
Travelers staying or just parking in La Spezia might reach the Cinque Terre by sea. Ferries connect La Spezia town center to all the Cinque Terre villages except Corniglia (in the high season also Portovenere and Lerici). Ferries are not a good idea if you carry big or heavy bags and consider forced cancelled trips due to rough sea.
The Pass is issued by the Cinque Terre National Park Authority and enables visitors to hike the trail managed by the Park and other services provided on the territory. The funds derived from the sales of the card finance the Park to manage and restore the land and to provide transport and other services.
Our hiking network is vast with varied levels of difficulties. Please, consult the pages of the Cinque Terre National Park. Respect all the alerts provided in each village, usually near all train stations. Wear proper shoes, bring water with you, keep the environment clean. Help our community to preserve this precious natural spot!
Which airport to the Cinque Terre?
Pisa and Genoa are the closest ones, but if you get better flights to Milan, Florence or Bologna, no problem trains or private drivers will take you to our Paradise!

Cinque Terre: a destination for any season
From March to Early June the Cinque Terre weather is perfect for hiking up and down the Cinque Terre Trails. March and April might bring rainy days but if you do not limit your stay to a few nights you will always have a chance to walk the best passages of our amazing region. Either you love diving from a rocky cliff, from a boat or you just love laying down on a nice beach on a comfortable deck chair protected by your sun umbrella, you will find all these opportunities in the Cinque Terre. Do not miss our boat torus. Fun and relaxation guaranteed!
Autumn is one of the best season in the Cinque Terre. From September to early November temperature are mild and colors bright. It's still possible diving since the water is warm, but it's also best time to visit around all our landmarks and taste excellent wine & food! Winter is our low season, but lovers of quiet places will find them charming. Some restaurants and business will be closed (apart from Christmas Time). In December you can visit the famous Manarola Nativity. And in Feb Mar why not go parasailing over Monterosso?

How to define the Cinque Terre?
Writers, Poets and Painters got inspiration from this incredible succession of rocks falling down into the sea

They pursue each other with progressive succession of protrusions and indentations, sharp as beaks, made of stone live as metal; and they keep on going towards that grand promontory, down there, which blocks the horizon and breaks their strait rush ahead: the Mesco
